Terms of Service

These Terms of Service explain the rules, responsibilities, limitations, and conditions that apply when people use the DirectOwner website, browse listings, submit information, or interact with the marketplace.

Last updated: May 26, 2026
Phase 1 note: DirectOwner is an early-stage owner-to-owner marketplace for cars and RVs. Listings, support, and trust processes may be handled manually while the platform continues to grow.
1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the DirectOwner website, people agree to these Terms of Service. If a person does not agree to these terms, that person should not use the website or submit information through the platform.

2. Marketplace Role

DirectOwner is a marketplace platform that connects private buyers and private sellers. DirectOwner does not own listed vehicles, does not act as a dealership, broker, escrow agent, or lender, and does not complete transactions on behalf of users.

Transactions occur directly between the buyer and the seller. DirectOwner may provide tools, listing review, communication guidance, trust and safety resources, and connections to third-party services, but DirectOwner is not a party to the transaction.

3. Eligibility

The DirectOwner platform is intended for adults who are legally able to enter into binding agreements. The marketplace is not intended for minors.

4. Listings and Seller Responsibilities

Sellers are responsible for ensuring that information submitted to DirectOwner is accurate and lawful.

  • Only the owner of a vehicle, or a person authorized to act for the owner, should submit a listing.
  • Sellers should provide accurate information about the vehicle, including condition, title status, location, and pricing.
  • Sellers should not submit misleading, fraudulent, or stolen vehicle information.
  • DirectOwner may review, reject, edit, or remove listings at its discretion to improve quality, trust, or compliance.
5. Buyer Responsibilities

Buyers are responsible for conducting their own due diligence before making a purchase decision.

  • Buyers should inspect the vehicle and verify title, lien, VIN, service records, and condition before purchase.
  • Buyers should use safe meeting practices and secure payment methods.
  • Buyers should not rely solely on listing descriptions or marketplace content when evaluating a vehicle.
6. Trust & Safety

DirectOwner may use manual review, verification checks, moderation, and fraud screening in an effort to improve marketplace safety. However, DirectOwner cannot guarantee that all users, listings, or communications are legitimate.

Users should remain cautious, verify documents independently, and report suspicious activity to support@getdirectowner.com.

7. Financing and Third-Party Services

DirectOwner may display or refer users to financing options or other third-party services. DirectOwner is not a lender and does not make lending decisions, set financing terms, or guarantee approval.

Any financing, insurance, inspection, or related service is provided by independent third parties under their own terms and policies.

8. Prohibited Conduct

Users may not:

  • Use the marketplace for fraud, impersonation, theft, or unlawful activity
  • Submit false, misleading, or deceptive listings or inquiries
  • Attempt to interfere with website operation or security
  • Use the platform to send spam, harassment, or abusive communications
  • Copy, scrape, or reproduce marketplace content without permission
9. No Warranty

DirectOwner provides the website and marketplace on an “as is” and “as available” basis. DirectOwner makes no guarantees regarding listing accuracy, user conduct, transaction outcomes, financing availability, or uninterrupted website operation.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, DirectOwner will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from use of the website, interactions between users, marketplace transactions, or third-party services.

11. Changes to the Platform or Terms

DirectOwner may update, suspend, or change parts of the website or these Terms of Service at any time. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted means the user accepts the updated terms.
