Watch for these warning signs

• Requests to pay or communicate off‑platform immediately without viewing details.
• Seller/buyer pressure: “send a deposit now” or “someone else is paying in 1 hour.”
• Refusal to provide basic verification: title status, VIN (masked is fine), or additional photos.
• Overpayment or “refund the difference” scams.
• Unusual payment requests: gift cards, crypto, wire to unrelated party, or “shipping agent” stories.

Best practices

• Meet in a public place during daylight hours (police station lot or busy public area).
• Bring a friend and tell someone where you’re going.
• Verify ID (match name to title where appropriate).
• Test drive with a clear plan: route, time limit, and valid driver’s license + insurance.
• For RVs, schedule a walkthrough and verify appliances, slides, generator (if applicable), and maintenance records.

Before money changes hands

• Get an independent inspection (mechanic for cars; RV specialist for RVs).
• Confirm title status and lien situation. If there’s a lien, ensure the payoff process is documented.
• Ask for service records and verify VIN details.

Safer payment options

• Bank or credit union transaction (best for larger amounts).
• Cashier’s check verified at the issuing bank (don’t accept without verification).
